Frequently Asked Questions
Short answers to the most important questions about the YMBox, the modules and the YMPortal.
Does Yachtmemory replace existing onboard electronics?
No. Yachtmemory complements existing systems and combines their data into one integrated platform.
Does Yachtmemory work without internet access?
Yes. The YMBox operates locally on board. Dashboard, database, sensors and analysis remain available even without cloud connectivity.
When is the YMPortal needed?
The YMPortal becomes useful for remote access, synchronization, long-term archives, public yacht pages and document management outside the vessel.
Is the yacht directly accessible from the internet?
No. The cloud connection uses an encrypted VPN connection to the YMServer. No direct internet access or port forwarding to the yacht is required.
What is the purpose of the YM Modules?
YM Modules extend the YMBox with additional sensors and control functions, such as chain force, chain length, bilge monitoring, motion detection or switching outputs.
Which parts are Open Source?
The onboard platform, hardware modules and local functions are designed as open-source hardware and software. The central YMPortal remains an independent cloud service.
